Hand an agent a scheduled task with a watchdog

Describe in words what to do and when. The agent builds the automation itself, and Hedoq watches every run.

For example: “every weekday at 9:00, collect new orders from the spreadsheet and send me a summary”. No scripts and no terminal commands needed from you.

Step by step

  1. In the sidebar, in the Automations section, click “New task” or press ⌘⇧N.
  2. Pick an agent: Claude, Codex or your own model. Click “Create”.
  3. The automation screen opens with the prompt “What should be automated?”. Describe the task in your own words.
  4. The agent asks a question if something is missing, then builds everything in the automation’s folder.
  5. To turn on the schedule, the agent asks for permission. A window appears on the Mac and the iPhone: click “Allow once” or “Always allow”.
  6. Done. A card at the top shows the name, description, schedule and state.

The automation card

  • State: “Runs smoothly”, “Running now”, “Stopped”, “Waiting for the first run”, or an orange “Errors: N”.
  • “Stop” / “Start” and “Delete” buttons.
  • The schedule button opens “Change the schedule?”: the agent asks how, makes the change and restarts it.
  • “Errors: N” opens the list of errors. “Fix” hands it to the agent.

Watchdog and auto-fix

Hedoq checks automations every 45 seconds. The watchdog is an algorithm, not a model: “done” means the run finished on its own and without an error.

  • A new error: Hedoq hands it to the automation’s agent to fix.
  • The fix did not work: a notification on the Mac and on the iPhone.
  • The agent ran out of limit or is unavailable: the next installed agent (Claude, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode) takes over. After half an hour, once the original agent is available again, it comes back. To bring it back right away, use the button on the card.

The automation chat

Every automation has its own chat on the right. This is not Telegram: it lives inside Hedoq and on the iPhone. The automation posts reports, images and files there, and asks questions with buttons. Quick bot commands sit under ⚡. New messages get a purple dot, and when the chat is closed you get a notification.

Good to know

  • Automations run while Hedoq is open and the Mac is awake. Lid-closed mode helps.
  • Each automation lives in its own folder in Hedoq Space, under Automations. Deleting the automation deletes the folder too.
  • Rename it by double-clicking its row. After that, the agent leaves the name alone.
  • To message other people, the agent suggests a Telegram bot. To write as you, it uses your own account; see Telegram.
