How to run Claude Code and Codex from your iPhone

An agent rarely stops because the task is hard. It stops because it is waiting for your "yes". With the phone in your pocket, that wait takes seconds instead of hours.

Why the agent stands still while you are away

A long task almost never runs in one go. The agent asks: “which option do we take?”, “may I delete this folder?”, “run the migration?”. While you are in a meeting or on the road, it waits. You come back two hours later to ten minutes of work.

There are two ways to fix that:

  • allow the agent more up front, so it asks less often;
  • answer it from wherever you are.

The first is not always wise: deleting files or writing to a database is better confirmed by you. The second needs the agent’s questions to reach your phone in a usable form, not as a terminal screen.

In Hedoq the phone does not run agents itself. Agents work on the Mac; the iPhone shows their sessions and drives them.

  1. In the Hedoq window on your Mac, press “Link iPhone” in the header. A QR code appears.
  2. In the Hedoq app on your iPhone, scan the QR code or type the six digits.
  3. Once linked, the Mac header shows the phone name with an online dot.

The link goes through a relay server, but from the first pairing messages are end-to-end encrypted. The server passes them on and cannot read them. Keys are kept in Keychain on the Mac and on the iPhone. The Mac does not need any open ports for this.

Answer questions and approvals with one tap

A session on the phone is not a terminal but a feed: the agent’s answers, its steps folded into one line, images, files. The side menu lists all sessions: who is working, who has a new answer, who is waiting for you.

When the agent needs a decision, a card appears in the feed:

  • a question with options: tap one and the agent goes on;
  • several questions at once: mark your answers and tap Answer;
  • a permission request: Allow or Deny.

If the agent shows something that has no card, open the session screen: the terminal text as it is, plus keys 1, 2, 3, arrows, Enter and Esc.

Sometimes the agent is waiting not for you but for the Mac: a system password or Keychain dialog is open on the computer. The phone tells you, so you do not think the agent froze.

Start tasks and follow the work

From the phone you can do more than answer:

  • write to any session, or dictate with the mic in the field;
  • attach a photo from the camera or library, or a file: say, a picture of an error on a screen;
  • open Hedoq commands under the lightning button and insert a ready command;
  • switch the model with its name chip;
  • press Stop if the agent went the wrong way;
  • start a new session: pick the agent and a project from Hedoq Space.

The ring in the header shows how full the model window is. Tapping it opens Usage: there is “Refresh session” and, if you pull up, the subscription limits. If the Mac is offline, your text is not lost, it stays in the field.

Keep the Mac from sleeping

The phone is useless if the Mac fell asleep in your bag. By default macOS sleeps when the lid closes, and the agents stop.

In Hedoq, turn on “Stay awake with the lid closed”: in the settings, or with the switch at the bottom of the notch. The first time, macOS asks for an administrator password. After that the Mac keeps working with the lid closed, the screen off and the sound muted. Below 20 % battery the rule is lifted and the Mac sleeps, so it does not drain to zero. More in long tasks without losing the thread.

Good to know up front

A few honest limits, so you do not expect too much:

  • the Mac has to be on with Hedoq open: the phone never talks to the models itself;
  • there are no push notifications. The end-of-turn chime plays while the app is open; you can turn it on in the phone settings;
  • one iPhone links to one Mac; one Mac can have several iPhones;
  • an incognito session opened on the phone is closed by the phone when you switch to another session.

A good daily rhythm: give the agents their tasks on the Mac in the morning, switch on lid-closed work, then answer from the phone whenever a dot lights up in the side menu.
